Former Coyote Pettibone playing for San Angelo Colts of United League
By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

Former Kansas Wesleyan baseball player Mike Pettibone is currently playing professional baseball for the San Angelo Colts of the six-team United League.

Pettibone, an integral part of KWU’s KCAC Championship runs in 2008 and 2009, has played in all 20 games to date for the Colts, and is batting .264 with two doubles, two triples and three homeruns. He has driven in 13 runs for the Colts, who are currently 8-12 and are tied for fourth in the United League standings.

Pettibone played two seasons at KWU, helping the Coyotes win KCAC Championships in both 2008 and 2009, and helped the Coyotes win the 2009 KCAC Tournament Championship and advance to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The Coyotes were one game away from making the 2009 AVISTA-NAIA World Series, and finished the 2009 season with a school record 40 wins, that included a 26-game winning streak.

In his two-year career at KWU, Pettibone, a native of Gilbert, Ariz., batted .336 with 26 doubles and seven homeruns. He also drove in 66 runs. He was named a 2008 Honorable Mention All-KCAC selection, and in 2009 he was named First Team All-KCAC and earned the KCAC Gold Glove at third base and continued on to win the 2009 Rawlings-NAIA Gold Glove at third base with a .968 fielding percentage, committing only five errors at third all season.

The San Angelo Colts are in the third game of a four-game set tonight at the Laredo Broncos. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
