The Kansas Wesleyan Women's Basketball team jumped out to an 11-2 lead to open the game and never looked back as the Coyotes routed the Bethel College Threshers 76-58 on Saturday night at Mabee Arena.


The win completes the season sweep for the Coyotes over the Threshers, as Wesleyan won 61-44 on January 3 in North Newton in the previous meeting between the teams.


Five straight points from Christian Cassity put the Coyotes ahead 11-2 with 17:42 to go in the first half. Bethel got back within six with 16:32 left on a bucket by Brittany Bates, but a three-point play from Vanessa Kresin pushed Wesleyan's lead back out to 11 points with 14:34 to go in the half.


Bethel would rally later in the half, as the Threshers tied things up at 20-all thanks to a 9-0 run capped by a bucket and free throw by Lauren Ulrich with 9:28 to go in the half. Wesleyan never relinquished the lead, as the Coyotes scored the next four points to take a 24-20 lead with 7:19 to go. Ulrich got Bethel within a point with 6:53 to go in the half, but Wesleyan got five unanswered points to take a 29-23 lead with 5:28 left.


Taylor Durant got Bethel within two of the Coyotes with 4:04 left, when Wesleyan shut the door on the Threshers. Sparked by Kalie LeShore's free throws, Wesleyan scored the next nine points to take a 38-27 lead with 11 second left before the half on free throws by Cassity. The Coyotes would lead 39-28 at the break.


The teams traded baskets to open the second half, but the Coyotes quickly asserted control, pushing their lead out to 16 points at 48-32 with 16:27 to go. After Bethel had gotten within 12, the Coyotes got a three by Alecia Smith and a bucket by Cassity to take a then game high 17-point lead with 14:45 to go.


Cassity's bucket with 11:47 left pushed Wesleyan's lead to 19, and a later three by Shelby Heim with 10:04 to go got Wesleyan ahead by 20 points for the first with at 63-43. The Coyotes held a 16-to-18 point a majority of the rest of the night, taking another 20-point lead with 23 seconds left on a bucket by Cassity, before coming away with the 18-point win.


Cassity led all scorers and rebounders in the game scoring 16 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Frost added 14 points and Kresin had 13 as Wesleyan shot 26-of-57 from the field for 45.6 percent in the game and outrebounded Bethel 44-42. The Coyotes blocked nine shots on the night, led by Frost with four.


Ulrich had 15 to lead Bethel as the Threshers shot 20-of-64 from the field for 31.3 percent. Durant had eight rebounds to lead Bethel on the board.


The Coyotes are off until Thursday when they host Sterling College at 6 p.m., at Mabee Arena.
