WICHITA – If you erase the 21-0 run that Friends had in the second half, it's a much different ballgame between the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes and the Friends Falcons on Thursday night at the Garvey Center in Wichita. Outside of that run, the Coyotes were only outscored by two points in the 82-59 loss to the Falcons.

The run by Friends blew what was a 3-point Friends lead out to a 24-point margin by the Falcons as the Coyotes were held without a point for six minutes and 20 seconds as Friends went on its charge.

The Coyotes trailed by just five points at the half, and got within one with 19:15 to go on a pair of free throws by Michael Johnson, but Friends regained a 6-point margin with 18:01 left on a three-point play by Anthony White. A steal and layup by Canon Fields got the Coyotes within three with 17:34 to go at 37-34.

Wesleyan didn't score for the next 6:20, finally breaking the drought with a pair of free throws by Brock Borovetz with 11:01 to go. The Coyotes, who have battled back time and time again this season, did not give up, cutting the Friends lead to 13 with 4:51 to go at 67-54. Friends would pull away again with a 9-1 run to lead by 21, and pushed the lead to a game high 25 points late in the game.

A slow start by both teams was in favor of the Coyotes early as they forged a 4-2 lead with 15:49 to go in the first half. Colton Rausch tied things up at 4-all with 14:47 to go and the Falcons took their first lead of the game with 14:01 left on a bucket by Lawrence Anderson.

Joe Mitchell hit a three for Friends to push their lead to five with 13:23 to go in the half, but the Coyotes rocketed back in front on a 7-0 run to take an 11-9 lead with 11:06 to go in the half. The Coyotes held a 12-11 lead until Dylan Goudeau hit a three for Friend to give the Falcons a 14-12 lead with 9:48 left.

A triple by Brock Borovetz put the Coyotes back ahead as the lead swung back and forth 11 times in the first half. Garret Pasold gave the Coyotes their last lead of the game with 3:42 left in the half before the Falcons closed the first period with an 8-2 to run to lead 30-25 at the half.

Johnson led the Coyotes with 12 points while Fields had 11 and Borovetz had 11 as Wesleyan shot 19-of-53 from the field for 35.8 percent. Joey Long led the Coyotes with eight rebounds as the Coyotes were only outrebounded by one, 36-35 in the game.

White led Friends with 19 points, while Mitchell had 15 as the Falcons shot 63.3 percent in the second half and 32-of-67 from the field for 47.8 percent in the game. Zach Nelson led Friends with eight rebounds.

The Coyotes return home on Saturday to face Bethel College at 7 p.m., from Mabee Arena.
