Kansas Wesleyan jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back as the Coyotes routed the Saint Mary Spires 72-50 on Saturday afternoon at Mabee Arena.

The change in start time from a typical 5 p.m., start on Saturday to a 2 p.m., tip didn't seem to phase the Coyotes either. Christian Cassity's steal and layup with 16:13 to go in the first half put the Coyotes up 11-0 and Saint Mary didn't score until the 15:51 mark on a buck by Jordan VanNess.

Wesleyan went ahead by as many as 14 points on free throws by McKenna Britton with 12:35 to go in the half. Saint Mary made a run at the Coyotes, getting within six with 9:07 to go at 20-14 on a three by Tracie Weege.

Back-to-back triples by Wesleyan's Shelby Heim put the Coyotes ahead by 12 and Alecia Smith's free throws with 3:57 to go before the break put the Coyotes up 16, capping a 10-0 run for the Coyotes. Shelby Watson scored at the buzzer for Saint Mary, sending Wesleyan into the half leading 37-25.

The Spires hit a three to open the second half, but the Coyotes scored 10 of the next 11 points to take a 47-29 lead with 16:32 to go on a rebound and putback by Britton.

Saint Mary got within 10 with 10:30 to go at 52-42, but the Coyotes quickly responded, pushing their lead out to 19 points with 4:19 to go on Christian Cassity's bucket. The Coyotes pushed their lead to a game high 22 points for the first time with 2:04 left on Jessica Olson's free throws and Morgan Bell's triple with 32 seconds left capped the scoring in the game sending the Coyotes to the 72-50 win.

Smith bounced back from a quiet night on Wednesday against Southwestern leading all scorers in the game with 22 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Vanessa Kresin had 12 points and eight boards for the Coyotes as well. Wesleyan was 25-of-63 from the field for 39.7 percent. The Coyotes enjoyed a 47-35 advantage in rebounding in the game.

Kendra Mattox had 14 points off the bench for Saint Mary to pace the Spires as they shot 34 percent from the field on 18-of-53 shooting. Weege added 12 for the Coyotes, but had seven of the Spires' 22 turnovers.

Wesleyan heads to Wichita on Thursday to take on Friends at 6 p.m., at the Garvey Center before returning home next Saturday to take on Bethel College at 5 p.m., at Mabee Arena.
