WICHITA – Kansas Wesleyan Women's Basketball was picked fourth by the KCAC coaches and sixth by members of the media present at the KCAC Media Day for Basketball held on Tuesday morning at the Airport LaQuinta Inn and Suites in Wichita.

Wesleyan is coming off an 18-13 season in 2011-12 that included a 12-6 mark in the KCAC. The Coyotes are under the direction of first year head coach Ryan Showman after serving the five previous seasons as the lead assistant for the Coyotes.

 

The Coyotes return three starters with significant experience in senior forward Stephanie Frost, Vanessa Kresin and Alicia Smith. The Coyotes will also count on returner Christian Cassity to play significant minutes this season as well. Several newcomers are on the roster and look to make an impact as well.

 

Southwestern was the favorite in both polls, scoring 84 points with six first place votes from the coaches and 90 points with three first place votes by the media.

 

In the coaches' poll Friends was picked second, followed by Sterling, KWU, Ottawa, Tabor, McPherson, Saint Mary, Bethany and Bethel.

The Coyotes open the season on November 1 at Midland (Neb.) at 7:30 p.m., in Fremont, Neb. The home opener for the Coyotes is in the KWU Women's Classic on November 9 against John Brown (Ark.) at 2 p.m., at Mabee Arena.
